Dr. Aliya Khalidi received her BA from LAU (Lebanon), MA in Theatre Directing from Leeds University and PhD in Arab Theatre Studies from SOAS, University of London. Currently, she teaches the history of Arabic theatre, and stage directing at LAU. She has directed 4 plays namely, Al-Halafeet (BUC 1995); Ayyam Beirut (LAU 2004); Al-Makhlouta (Burj Al-Barajneh Palestinian Camp, 2010); and 80 Steps (Babel Theatre, 2013). The latter was chosen to represent Lebanon at the Arab Theatre Festival in Sharjah, UAE in 2014. Her research interests focus on the history of Arabic Theatre, the development of modern Arab theatre and the role of theatre in society. Aliya worked for Dubai TV for 5 years training television presenters for a wide spectrum of presenting skills. She conducts training sessions for public speakers, TV personalities and Jury members in shows such as MBCâ€™s Arabs Got Talent and Arab Idol.
