As part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, The Institute for Women's Studies in the Arab World at the Lebanese American University organized a regional arts competition: Violence Against Women: Whose Problem Is It?
Co-sponsored by ESCWA and UNFPA (United Nations Populations Fund), the competition received 75 entries. Among them were LAU Communication Arts students Rita Abi Daoud, Emma Nader, Imad Barakat and Pia Maria El Khoury. The three students together produced the contest-winning short film as a public service announcement for their Introduction to Audio Visual Media class (TVF 222) in fall 2017 under the supervision of Dr. Nasser Chour, Faculty member at the Department of Communication Arts. The film talks about a survivor of rape who is vilified by members of her community.
The winners, along with their work, will be featured on Lebanese and regional media platforms, in addition to those affiliated with ESCWA, UNFPA and IWSAW.
