Wafaa Halawi is a Lebanese/French Filmmaker, actress and dancer. She graduated from the Lebanese American University (B.A. in Communication Arts), New York Film Academy (One-Year Directing Diploma) and University College London (M.A. in Film).
Wafa’a has worked extensively in the UK and Lebanon, directed 9 short films and wrote a feature screenplay Cello that won several international script selections and prizes such as Cinephilia award, Scene Insiders and Engage (MEDIA) - where she received the 1st prize for feature development from renowned American producer Christine Vachon.
In Addition to teaching film at LAU, she also started a series of dance films that premiered at international and local festivals such as Cinedans, Amsterdam and international art fairs and exhibitions.
Wafa’a is currently the Director of the Lebanese Film Festival that focuses on promoting Lebanese talents from all over the world. The 12th edition will take place from 30 May to 3 June 2016 at CinemaCity, Beirut Souks.
